Welcome to Basildon Kitchens – I am so excited to be taking part in the Bloggers Quilt Festival. This is a first for me – submitting a quilt to a festival. So pull up a chair and I will tell you a little about this quilt.
This quilt is called “Stars over Fort Sumter”. I received the pattern in a goodie basket from my quilter friends while recouperating from minor foot surgery, several years ago. It is a Civil War Reproduction pattern by Bonnie Blue Quilts (now Red Crinoline Quilts). I loved absolutely everything about it.
Then a couple of years ago, my hubby & I were on vacation in Charleston, SC. We litterally stumbled upon a quilt shop that had a sale! (Can you believe it!!!) They were featuring a line of fabric called ‘Charleston’ – all reproduction of that exact period! I purchased enough to make this quilt and I finally finished it and am so pleased with the quilt – it belongs to my hubby, who says he has the best souvenir of our trip ever!
This is a detailed quilt and the biggest lesson I learned working on it was accuracy – accuracy in cutting, and accuracy in sewing the blocks – make sure you have exact 1/4″ seams. The little extra effort ensuring all measurements were correct, made putting it together a dream. Even the pieced border almost fell together! Really – I’m not kidding.
It measures approximately 81″ x 81″. It was quilted by a wonderfully talented local lady on her long arm machine. It looks fantastic on our bed and will be entered in my Quilt Guild’s upcoming show later this summer.
I’d really like to thank Amy over Amy’s Creative Side for organizing this wonderful festival! Now, head on over to the festival and have fun looking around and get even more inspired!
Thanks for letting me share!
