I have been hard at work trying to get another part of a wedding gift for my step-daughter completed. She and her new hubby are coming to visit for the long weekend and I want to have another piece ready to present. You may remember the table runner I made for them that I called “River Rocks”. I am now making place mats to go along with it.
I continued in the same theme and I am pretty happy with the outcome. The colours are wonderful. Don’t you just LOVE Kona Cottons!? The light & dark greys work really well with the jewell tone solids for the circles or “rocks”. I quilted wavy, free form lines to represent flowing water over the “rocks”. I used the brights as the backs to the mats and bound them in the darker grey. I even used some of the scraps to make a couple of mug rugs or pot holders to match!
My inspriation for the table runner came from Modern Mix by Jessica Levitt. She made a wonderful bed quilt called “Pebble Road” which I found enchanting. The mugs rugs came from Quilting Modern by Jacquie Gering & Katie Pedersen. They have some great “Crazy Placemats” that I loved. Both are wonderful books that explain things well and give you the basis to create something improvisational and truly special.
Now head on over to Lee @ Freshly Pieced and see what everyone else has been up to…I will let you know how the place mats were received when we present them….
Hope you are all enjoying the really warm summer weather! Talk to you soon….Connie 🙂
