I will just bet that you thought I wasn’t quilting anymore. I haven’t been that active in recent years, due to many other demands on my time, but I have still been active, though not as prolific. So, drumroll please, a new quilt is born.
A girlfriend of mine had a baby girl in 2008. Along with a few work friends, we got together and made a quilt for her, which has been well loved and used. My friend asked me if she saved some of her baby clothes, would I be willing to make a memory quilt for her daughter. Of course, I said yes!
Fast forward a few years and she had collected a whole bin full of clothing. Her hubby was kind enough to deliver them and I got started.
I started working on the quilt, cutting out pieces and putting them up on my design board and I just didn’t like what I was coming up with. I purchased some solid fabrics to bring it all together with a more unified feel. Lots of white, some hot pink, bright green and a pretty robin’s egg blue. Eventually, after much trial and error, I came up with a pleasing arrangement and finally got a quilt top made.
Next I made a back out of a couple of left over blocks and some cute fabric that I found in my stash… and began quilting. I was making great progress but when I stopped for the day, I noticed that the back had shifted and I had to un-pick a third of the quilt….it was painstakingly slow work. I didn’t want to put holes into the top.
Finally, the un-picking done, I managed to get it quilted and bound and happily it is making it’s way to it’s new owner. I sure hope she likes it 🙂
So there you have it. One new quilt made from baby clothes. …now, if you will excuse me, it’s time to cut out the next project! …idle hands are not my thing 🙂
Thanks for visiting…until next time, Connie 🙂
