Day one – home

...it's still snowing...
…waiting for warmer weather…

This Purple Martin House was pretty old looking when we moved to this house & property seven years ago. It’s looking a little worse every year. It leans just a little more. We keep trying to straighten it, but without much luck. We are, however, loath to replace it with a ‘newer’ model, as we fear that the birds may not come back. Perhaps we will put up a new one and see what happens before removing the old one.

The first sign that they have returned is the chattering. They communicate with each other with a large variety of chirping, clicking, and calling. Then, you know the young have hatched, as the parents are soaring & swooping, catching bugs to feed the voracious appetites. I know that summer is coming to a close, when it all becomes silent again. They have come, built new nests, raised a family and gone south; their job here is done.

This is their home, and an enjoyable part of my home.

I am living my dream life in the country! I love photography, travelling, cooking, baking and I even try my hand at quilting.
