Weekly Challenge – Documentary

Here it is the first week of the year and the first photo challenge for ‘thebethadilly52’ and I’m already struggling.

Beth over at ‘thebethadilly‘ has a weekly challenge this year. Each prompt is designed to help you build your photography skills.

This week’s prompt is Documentary style photography…sounds simple, right? Just document something in your world.

Perhaps I’m just too critical of my own attempts…perhaps, I’m just not feeling it after the holidays, but after several attempts at this, there was really nothing I felt like sharing.

Yesterday was a going to be a long day of lots of driving to attend to personal errands, so I didn’t really think I would get anything, but popped my camera bag into the car, ‘just in case’. As I looked around, the sun was just peaking above the horizon. We had a pretty light snowfall overnight and our yard was just begging to be photographed. I had my cell phone in my hand and quickly took a few photos and rushed into to the car to be on our way.

Though I would rather have taken some time to set up my Nikon, I believe just capturing the moment keeps with the ‘documentary’ prompt. I was pleasantly pleased with the result. The creek is frozen for the first time this year, the light snow looks like icing sugar, the sun was just rising and the garden is sleeping. (click on images to see full size)

…and the collage posted on Instagram…

Thank you for visiting. As always, until next time, Connie 🙂

I am living my dream life in the country! I love photography, travelling, cooking, baking and I even try my hand at quilting.

  1. I found this challenge difficult too, Connie. I thought we had to document something on a daily basis and I just couldn’t decide on a subject!
